House Rules

We wholeheartedly believe that vaccination of our pets is necessary, and we will always recommend that your pet is kept up to date with the vaccines that are relevant to his/her lifestyle. Exactly which vaccines we recommend will vary across individuals, based on their risk factors, lifestyle, age, etc.

That said, unless there is a medical reason not to do so, we will require all patients within our care to have an up to date rabies vaccination that can be proven with a dated and signed vaccine certificate or an adequate rabies titre test (valid within the last 3 months). If you do not have this information available for your pet, we are happy to contact your previous clinic or to provide your pet with a rabies vaccination at your first visit.

It is a legal requirement in Ontario to have your pet vaccinated for rabies and we have implemented this policy to protect your pet, your family, and our staff members. Although rabies is rare in the London area, this virus can be transferred from animals to humans and is often fatal. Given that we interact with your pet very closely at each visit, potential exposure to rabies is a risk that we are simply not willing to take. Please help us keep everyone healthy by vaccinating your dog!

Sana Adelaide Animal Hospital welcomes everyone, regardless of background, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, etc. We will not tolerate any form of racism, abuse, bullying, name-calling, or shaming towards our staff or other clients within our business. If you have selected a name for your pet that is offensive, we kindly ask that you select a secondary name for their file at Sana Adelaide Animal Hospital.

On this note, if you have a disability or personal, spiritual, and/or religious beliefs that you would like us to know about as we prepare treatment plans for your pet, please inform our staff so that we can work together and find a plan that works for everyone involved.

At Sana Adelaide Animal Hospital, we do not believe in performing surgery purely for the purpose of cosmetics or convenience. We do not perform ear cropping, tail docking/amputation, or declawing of cats unless there is a medical reason to do so.
If you are interested in having your cat declawed, contact us now to book a consultation with Liz, our cat whisperer! We are more than happy to provide you with alternatives to declawing that will help to protect yourself, your children, your furniture, and/or your carpet.

Some animals will act aggressively within a veterinary setting due to fear, anxiety, and/or dominance. We are here to do everything that we can to avoid this situation and to prevent it from getting worse at future visits. We ask that if your pet has shown any aggression or severe anxiety towards anyone or anything in the past, please let us know when booking your appointment. This allows us to plan accordingly and to allocate additional time and staff for you. We want to be set up for success when you visit us and the more we know, the better we can handle the situation to decrease stress for everyone!

Sometimes the solution is simple such as booking a longer appointment time so that we can go slower and build trust with your pet. Sometimes, we will ask you to place a muzzle on your pet before you enter the clinic. Sometimes, we will ask you to enter through the back door. And sometimes, we will need to stop and regroup. This may mean that we will send you home with medication(s) to help calm your pet for their next visit. This may also mean that we will need full sedation to handle your pet. As with everything at Sana Adelaide, this approach will be customized for you and your pet.
